The Broadband Development Alliance released the "China Broadband Speed Status Report" (Issue 34) today, which provides an overview of the end-to-end broadband user experience speed in China for the fourth quarter of 2023.
The report shows that in the fourth quarter of 2023, the average download speed (user experience) of fixed broadband networks in China reached 83.88Mbit/s, an increase of 4.3% compared to the previous quarter, and an increase of 12.18Mbit/s compared to the same period last year, with an annual growth rate of 16.99%. The comprehensive average download speed (user experience) of 4G and 5G networks for mobile broadband users in China reached 129.36Mbit/s, a year-on-year increase of 31.91%.
In terms of fixed broadband download speed, China Telecom had the highest speed, with an average download speed of 84.72Mbit/s nationwide, followed by China Unicom and China Mobile. In terms of mobile broadband download speed, China Mobile's mobile broadband network had the highest download speed, reaching 131.23Mbit/s, followed by China Telecom and China Unicom.
In addition, the report also released the mobile broadband user experience speed of different network standards in China for the fourth quarter of 2023. The comprehensive average download speed for users accessing the Internet using 4G networks was 43.48Mbit/s, while the comprehensive average download speed for users accessing the Internet using 5G networks was 228.75Mbit/s.
The report pointed out that China has built the world's largest and technologically advanced "dual gigabit" network infrastructure, achieving "gigabit connectivity in every city, 5G connectivity in every county, and broadband connectivity in every village". Urban areas and conditionally qualified towns have basically achieved "gigabit fiber optic to the home" for both fixed and mobile networks.
At the same time, the development of the dual gigabit network has accelerated the improvement of the broadband user experience in China. The overall user experience speed of fixed and mobile broadband networks in China has increased by more than 2.5 times in the past three years, and the average user experience speed when accessing Internet content has increased rapidly.
