Diving deep into the 5G module market
According to GSMA Intelligence, the number of global 5G connection have surpassed 1.5 billion, with a majority of connections coming from smartphones. To unlock the full potential, 5G must be extended to new devices, new use cases, and new industries. This provides an excellent growth space for 5G module manufacturers including SIMCom.
Luo Xiaoyan noted that connection scenarios represented by 5G are very ubiquitous, with different regions and industry markets having differentiated demands for module performance, cost and speed. This requires module manufacturers to create a complete and diverse product lineup. And SIMCom provides diversified 5G module product portfolios for global customers.
Aiming at 5G ultra-high-speed scenarios, SIMCom has launched the 5G module series SIM8270 and SIM8390, providing a maximum speed of over 10Gbps. These modules are suitable for applications that have strict requirements on speed and latency, such as broadband access, video monitoring and industrial control.
Considering the variations in global 5G network deployment, SIMCom's SIM8270 supports both 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) , while SIM8390 supports 5G NSA, SA, and mmWave modes. Both modules utilize LGA packaging, integrate GNSS positioning capabilities, and maintain AT command compatibility with the SIM8260 series, enabling customers to quickly iterate on their terminal products and reduce development costs.
For 5G medium-low-rate scenarios, Luo Xiaoyan said, "RedCap achieves a good balance between cost and performance, making it highly attractive to customers seeking cost-effectiveness and the rapid deployment of IoT applications that meet 5G requirements."
SIMCom has launched the SIM8230 and SIM8230-M2 series RedCap modules based on the Qualcomm platform. The SIM8230 module supports multi-frequency bands for 5G R17 SA, comes with a variety of functional interfaces for external device expansion, and boasts advantages such as lightweight, energy efficiency, compactness, and cost-effectiveness. It can be widely utilized in various domains including 5G CPE, wearable devices, industrial routers, high-definition streaming devices, AR/VR, drones, and remote-controlled robots.
In terms of Wi-Fi, SIMCom has also launched a series of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 modules to provide customers with high-speed support for the connection between 5G and Wi-Fi. In addition, its 5G modules SIM8270 and SIM8390 can be used together with the Wi-Fi module W87 to form a variety of 5G+Wi-Fi 7 solutions.
Innovative AI Smart Modules
The intelligent interconnection of everything requires not only powerful connectivity, but also AI technology and efficient computing power. SIMCom has innovatively launched a series of Smart Module products to meet the AI and computing power requirements in edge and terminals.

Among them, the SIM9650L is a high-performance Smart Module with the Android 14 OS. It is equipped with a Qualcomm 8-core 64-bit ARM V8 processor and a Kyro 6xx CPU. Compared to previous generations of 4G smart modules, the SIM9650L series has a built-in AI processor Dual HVX, and Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, with computing power exceeding 14 Tops. It also has a built-in Adreno VPU 633, supporting up to 4K 30 video encoding or 4K 60 video decoding.
SIM9650L supports multiple high-definition cameras, high-definition touch screen, and has powerful high-speed data transmission and multimedia processing capabilities. It helps customers take advantage of the operating system and high performance of the smart module to quickly develop products and applications related to multimedia and wireless communication functions.
In addition, the SIM9650L series integrates GPS high-precision positioning, BT5.2 short-range communication, 2x2 MIMO, and Wi-Fi6E. It can be widely used in intelligent POS cash registers, logistics terminals, VR/AR devices, intelligent robots, in-vehicle devices, intelligent cockpits, video surveillance, security monitoring, intelligent information collection devices, industrial-grade PDAs and smart handheld terminals.
